Biography
Ted Tregear did his BA at Trinity College, Cambridge, and his MSt at Hertford College, Oxford, before returning to Cambridge for his PhD. After finishing his doctorate in 2019, he stayed on in Cambridge as a Research Fellow at Gonville and Caius College. He joined St Andrews in September 2022.
Research areas
Ted's work focuses on early modern poetry and drama, especially Shakespeare, with a particular interest in the relationship between literature and philosophy in early modern England. His first monograph, Anthologizing Shakespeare, 1593-1603, was published by Oxford University Press in 2023. He is currently at work on a second monograph, tentatively entitled What is Metaphysical Poetry?, which explores the distinctive affinity between poetry and metaphysics in seventeenth-century literature. His writing has appeared in Review of English Studies, Studies in Philology, SEL, Spenser Review, Cambridge Quarterly and elsewhere.
